Secret Rome Tour: Trastevere Undergrounds Small Group Walking Tour

Trastevere is one of Rome’s oldest and better preserved neighbourhoods. The alleyways, lanes, churches, old traditional bakeries and shops will offer a pleasant, relaxed and authentic experience of Rome. The tour starts from the Church of San Crisogono, which was built in the late Middle Ages and now has the appearance of a typical roman baroque church. Hidden in its undergrounds are various frescoes of the original basilica of the 5th century.

We will descend 20 feet under the street level to discover the old walls and structures, the frescoes from the 5th to the 12th century as well as many inscriptions and sarcophagi in a unique journey through history.

Then we will walk through the hidden lanes of Trastevere to reach the Basilica of Santa Cecilia, visiting the beautiful baroque church, the walls and the decoration, mosaics, shrines and columns of the roman houses of Saint Cecilia’s family.
